On Thursday morning in Burke County, North Carolina, it is reported that a man who had survived a traffic accident was killed following his collision. Reports indicate that the 41 year old John Franklin had went looking for his lost cell phone and was killed after being hit by a truck.
The fatal truck accident occurred at around 3:00 AM in the eastbound lanes of I-40. Franklin was from Tennessee and had been traveling eastbound on I-40 when he hit a guardrail and flipped his motor vehicle. After his vehicle flipped, another driver stopped to assist him and told police that Franklin appeared uninjured.
The driver told officers that Franklin walked onto I-40 to look for his phone. That is when he was hit and killed by the driver of a 1999 Ford F-150, which was heading eastbound.
At this time, the case is expected to be turned over to the district attorney's office. The office will investigate the accident to see if charges should be filed against the driver of the truck.
