Mother Sues Drug Clinic for Her Son's Death
News sources have reported that the mother of a man who died of drug overdose is now suing Lake County Coroner Richard Keller. The Coroner is a former methadone clinic director who treated the woman's son for addiction.
This month, Jill Vaugh filed her wrongful death claim against Keller and Green Dragonfly clinic. In her claim, she said she was seeking an unspecified amount of damages for the death of her son due to alleged negligence.
On December 3, 2008, 30-year-old Steven died after he was prescribed methadone during his second day of treatment at the clinic. In August 2009, the clinic closed after state and federal inspections disclosed numerous violations.
Keller stands accused of improperly prescribing methadone to Vaugn and failing to order proper tests. It is also asserted that Keller failed to fully evaluate Vaughn and record his medical history.
Jill Vaugn told reporters, "I think the way they handled everything was irresponsible." Vaughn had discovered her son's body after she returned home from work.
