Teen Driver Hits Police Cruiser

On Sunday, it was reported that a police cruiser from Hamlet was involved in a three car auto accident. The collision took place on the intersection of Spring Street and Highway 177.  Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

Additionally, an officer from the North Carolina Highway Patrol said that no one received a citation as a result of the crash.

According to the accident report, Hamlet Police Chief John Haywood explained Officer Woodrow Walters had been responding to a criminal complaint when he crossed the intersection.  According to a witness, everyone stopped for him, but one car did not see the police cruiser and proceeded to pull out.

The officer was hit in the side by the vehicle driven by Ashton Millen, an 18-year-old driver who had two passengers riding with him.  The police cruiser then collided head-on with another vehicle that happened to be parked nearby.
