Trooper Taken to Hospital Following Car Accident
In Winston-Salem, North Carolina, it has been reported that a trooper from the North Carolina Highway Patrol had to be transported to a nearby hospital after sustaining injuries during an auto accident.
The sources say that the collision occurred on Interstate 40 westbound at around 8:30 AM. Following the accident, an alert from the North Carolina Department of Transportation stated that two of the three lanes on the interstate were closed.
According to Trooper Kevin Hennelly, Trooper Brett Daniels had been investigating an accident on I-40 when a SUV hit the back of his patrol vehicle. The driver of the SUV was traveling in the far left lane when she hit a patch of black ice unexpectedly. Her car slid a distance and then collided with the trooper's patrol car.
Officers say that Trooper Brett Daniels was partially in his car when the crash took place and he was later transported to the hospital after suffering nonlife threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.
