In The U.S., this week is dedicated to National Teen Driver Safety. Many are focusing on the driving behaviors of teenagers at this time because this particular age group is inexperienced behind the wheel and commonly engages in driving behaviors that are dangerous, like texting while driving.
Throughout the country, educators and community leaders are taking action to increase awareness of the dangers of car accidents, a leading cause of death amongst the teenager demographic.
Statistics from the North Carolina Department of Transportation reveal that in 2008, there were over 46,000 auto accidents involving people between the ages of 15 and 19. During that same time span, 81 teenagers did during traffic collisions and more than 8,000 suffered injuries.
