Allstate to Issue over $600 in Auto Insurance Refunds in North Carolina
This week, Wayne Goodwin, the North Carolina Insurance Commissioner, announces that 1,803 Allstate Insurance Company insurance holders throughout the state will receive refunds from the company totaling $680,718.22. The refund comes after a Department of Insurance complaint investigation revealed that the company had been overcharging on some auto insurance premiums.
Commissioner Goodwin said, "Everyone makes mistakes, even insurance companies." He then added, "That's why the Department of Insurance is here - we work every day to find these kinds of mistakes, make sure companies fix them, and protect consumers across North Carolina from future errors."
During the investigation, it was revealed that Allstate was inappropriately including the cost of rental car policy holders needed to rent following an auto accident in the property damage claim totals. This error led to higher damage costs, and then escalated premiums for some of those drivers. The miscalculations occurred from July 2005 until July 2008.
