Gas Distributor Warns Officials of Lack of Odorant
The Associated Press has reported that an Illinois-based gas distributor is now warning officials in at least 12 states that some of its propane deliveries may have lacked sufficient odorant, which is meant to alert homeowners of possible gas leaks.
In a letter to public safety officials, Aux Sable Liquid Products said that the odorant and is typically added at a facility in Morris, Illinois.
On Thursday, a company spokesman confirmed the letter, but would not elaborate on details surrounding the situation.
Aux Sable Liquid Products reported that products may have been shipped to states including: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Maryland, Virginia and Vermont.
At this time, the company has ceased all shipments from the Illinois facility while it conducts investigations.
In July, Massachusetts investigated the odorant issue after a fatal construction accident.
