Young Girl Suffers Facial Dog Bite Injuries
A young girl who suffered a dog bite to her face is still recovering from her painful injuries.
According to Omaha police, 5-year-old Shayleigh Leeper-Martinez was bitten on the face by a pit bull owned by Jazhan Amill,33. As per state regulations, the dog was taken into custody and quarantined; he will be held until the result of court proceedings against Amill. The owner was ticketed on multiple counts: obstructing an investigation, pit bull insurance violation and suspicion of harboring a dangerous dog.
After the little girl was attacked, Amill reportedly fled with the dog, in hopes of preventing the Nebraska Humane Society from taking it. When he finally returned home later that evening, officers were waiting to take the dog away. This isn't the first time that Amill has gotten into legal trouble as a result of his pit bull. He was found guilty in 2009 for failure to have a muzzle or leash on the animal, and for not having a pit bull restrained. These both constituted as misdemeanors on his record.
