Distracted Driver Causes Accident, Kills One
After a minor car accident occurred along Interstate 85, the two vehicles pulled to the median to exchange information, according to reports. Lamanda Reid, a 22-year-old East Carolina student and another woman were involved in the accident.
A swarm of cars passing by slow down to look at the wreckage, causing a slow in the vehicles moving south bound.
Another vehicle, operated by Todd Winecoff was unable to stop in time, swerving towards the median in hopes of avoiding a collision.
Winecoff then hit an embankment, which sent his car unavoidably into Reid and the other woman at the scene.
Reid was pronounced dead on the scene, while the other woman was said to have non-life threatening injuries, according to troopers.
Winecoff was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle.
