Woman to Undergo Multiple Surgeries after Boat Accident
After surviving a boating accident on Lake Norman, a woman will now have to undergo multiple surgeries.
According to Master Officer Kenneth Osborne of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission, the victim, 26-year-old Deondra Scott, was with her friends participating in "Lake Bash." It is an annual event where hundreds of people come and tie their boats together in Lake Norman. Scott was swimming near her friend's boat when another boat, not seeing her, backed over her.
As a result, the boat's propellers injured her severely. Witnessing the horrible boat accident, several men jumped into the water to pull her out, while a doctor nearby applied a tourniquet. While Osborne credits the tourniquet with possibly saving Scott's life, she will now require multiple surgeries to fix her injuries.
Although officers did find alcohol on the boat that caused the accident, they determined that the driver had not been drinking at the time.
