A man once known for bringing glory to North Carolina State lost his life last week in a terrible auto accident.
According to the Raleigh police department, Lorenzo Charles, 47, was driving a charter bus when it suddenly crashed. Further details are limited at the moment, although the report does show that there were no passengers on the bus, and nobody else was injured in the accident.
Charles will be remembered in the local community for the incredible dunk that led to the win for his school in 1983. North Carolina State was playing against the University of Houston, and when teammate's Dereck Whittenberg's shot fell short of the basket, Charles caught it and dunked it as the buzzer sounded. Commenting on Charles' death, Whittenberg said that "we will be forever connected because of that play [...] It's just too hard to accept -- he was too young."
