Drunk Driver in Hospital Following Accident
In Mount Airy, it was recently reported that a woman was ejected from her car seat when an accident took place during the afternoon hours on Friday.
According to local police, 42-year-old Ellen Smith was driving on Ararat Road when she suddenly hit an embankment which led to her car flipping over. At the time of the drunk driving accident, Smith was not wearing a seatbelt and was immediately thrown from her vehicle.
Following the collision, Smith had to be airlifted to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Reports indicate that she is in stable, but critical condition.
Police say that the 42-year-old was charged with driving under the influence and driving with a revoked license.
