Killer Now Facing Wrongful Death Lawsuit
A man accused of killing his wife and two sons now finds himself in the middle of a wrongful death lawsuit as well.
Jack Carey, an attorney for Sheri Coleman, hopes to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit against Christopher Coleman. However, he withdrew the suit this week with plans of refiling it later on after Coleman's criminal trial. Carey will work with Tony Romanucci of Chicago on the new lawsuit. They hope to name Joyce Meyer Ministries, where Coleman worked as the security chief, as a defendant, rather than a "respondent in discovery."
Coleman is currently being held without bail on charges of first-degree murder. The prosecutor hopes to get the death sentence for the strangling deaths of wife Sheri Coleman, 31, and two sons Garett, 11, and Gavin, 9. The three were discovered in their Columbia, Ill. home on May 5, 2009. The prosecutors believe that Coleman killed his family to start a new life with his girlfriend in Florida. They also claim that the ministry knew of his plans and should be held accountable for them.
