Preventing Dog Bites in Your Home
If you are considering getting a dog, you must learn how to prevent and care for dog bites should they occur.
Before you purchase or adopt a dog, talk to a veterinarian or breeder to see which breeds would be best suited to your household. For example, dogs that have a known history of aggression are not suited to homes where children reside. If there is a child in the house, you should be sensitive as to whether he/she is ready to have a dog, and if he/she is nervous about having one around.
Even when you decide on a certain breed you want to buy/adopt, you need to spend time with different dogs to get a feel for them. Once you find one dog you would like, spend an additional amount of time with it, and bring your family members along if possible to interact with it as well.
Once the dog has been brought home, refrain from playing aggressive games with your dog.
