Woman Sentenced for Drunk Driving Accident
The young woman who drove through a crowded intersection and killed another woman was sentenced to three years and four months in jail this week.
According to an attorney for Chamica Adams, the woman responsible for thedrunk driving accident, that the night of the accident was the first time she had ever been intoxicated. When officers pulled her over, Adams had a blood-alcohol level that was twice the state legal limit. As a result, 26-year-old Julia Backleitner lost her life, and 26-year-old Melissa Basque, her passenger, was seriously injured.
Adams was originally charged with aggravated assault, involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. She was slotted to be sentenced this past Friday; however, the judge involved in her case, Judge William Jackson, excused himself from the case due to personal connections. The judge's daughter was enrolled in the same Masters program as the victim.
