North Carolina Man Charged with DUI and More

The hot pursuit of a 40 year old North Carolina man along the U.S. 501 ended in a highway patrol crash and an arrest.

According to reports, officials tried to stop the man driving a red Ford Explorer for suspicion of driving under the influence late Monday night. The driver stopped on the side of the road, as directed, before taking off again.

The pursuit continued along the U.S. 501 when the driver turned off his headlights and made a U-Turn in the road to strike the trooper's patrol car, according to reports.

The trooper's patrol car caught fire after the collision, but was able to escape the burning vehicle in time. The Horry County Sheriff's Office is currently investigating the crash.

During the pursuit, the Ford Explorer allegedly struck another vehicle before the police deployed stop stick spikes in an attempt to stop the vehicle.

According to police reports given after the car accident, the man was allegedly charged with driving under the influence, driving while suspended and failure to stop for a blue light.
