10 Years Later: A Remembrance of September 11, 2001
To many, it may seem that just ten short years ago our country was placed under attack. Taking the lives of nearly 3,000 people, the events that occurred at the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon that morning will never be forgotten.
The national memorial to those lives taken on that fateful morning opened to the public on Monday morning. However, limited and priority access was given to those relatives of the victims.
The New York memorial at the footprints of the North and South tower of the World Trade Center consists of two large fountains extending deep within the ground.
Surrounding the fountain is bronze rim in which every victim's name is engraved. The names are grouped according to where the people were when they passed and who they were with.
Expecting to become of one the most popular monuments in the United States, it is surrounded by beautiful oak trees.
Construction sites remain around the site of the Twin Towers to develop a new World Trade Center, so access may remain limited for some time.
