Fatal Car Accident Rate Drops for Younger Teens
A recent study has shown that new licensing laws may have led to the decrease in fatal accidents involving 16 year olds.
However, many believe that it may be due to other factors. With the laws being much stricter and making it much more difficult to obtain a driver's license at 16 these days, many are opting out of the traditional permit and license tests for waiting an additional two years until their 18th birthday to drive.
Once these teens have reached the age of 18, they are able to get their driver's license in a matter of weeks versus a six month or longer period.
Researchers at the California Department of Motor Vehicles and the University of North Carolina have noted nearly 1,350 fewer fatal auto accidents involving 16 year old drivers.
While every state has different requirements for obtaining a driver's license, most have made it a more rigorous process in many different ways.
