North Carolina's "Booze It and Loose It" a Success
In the three day holiday weekend, state troopers put forth a proactive effort to step up DWI checkpoints and speed patrols to help prevent auto accidents and
injuries along many North Carolina highways.
Operation "Booze It and Loose It" resulted in approximately 950 charges of driving while impaired and over 9,000 speeding tickets.
Troopers noted that within a period of three hours on a stretch of two miles on Interstate 40 close by Aviation Parkway, they charged nearly 70 drivers with speeding in excess of 80 mph or more, which can result in the suspension of a driver's license.
However, the troopers are more concerned with the aftermath and human cost of drunken driving and speeding. Last year during the Labor Day holiday weekend, nearly 500 alcohol related car accidents were reported, resulting in 20 fatalities and over 350 injuries.
While reports have not yet confirmed the outcome of this year's campaign, it has sure left a lasting effect on the residents of North Carolina.
