NC DOT Targets Young Drivers in "Just Drive" Campaign

Shown in North Carolina movie theaters between the Thanksgiving and New Year holiday season, the state's Department of Transportation is targeting young drivers, ages 16 to 25, in an effort to prevent distracted driving. A short clip of the after-effects of multiple distracted driving car accidents was shown in PG-13 and R rated movies. Currently, distracted driving causes 20% of car accidents; the NC DOT is working to reduce and prevent these types of accidents from occurring. In the state, it is illegal to text and drive or use the phone at all while driving for a driver under the age of 18 – but is this enough to prevent distracted driving? This seems to be one of the most prevalent questions for the NC DOT right now. Distracted driving includes all forms of visual, manual and cognitive distractions, including eating, changing a cd, talking on the phone, and even drunken driving.
