Participating in a scavenger hunt, two teens were struck by a motor vehicle in Kannapolis just on January 15, 2012 around 7:44pm, according to news sources. The two teens were struck by a local resident's van, one sustaining catastrophic injuries to the head. The 14-year-old girl sustained the worst injuries in comparison to the 15-year-old teenage boy that was with her during the scavenger hunt. The accident took place when the teens ran across the street searching for clues when they were struck by the van. Days after the incident occurred, the girl is still listed in critical condition while the teenage boy is currently in stable condition.
