Workers' Comp Death Benefits Provided to Widow of Airline Worker
Over three years after the loss of her husband, a woman is finally being paid workers' compensation death benefits as per the decision of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. In 2000, her husband, an employee at US Airways Inc., suffered a serious back injury while lifting luggage for the airline. Years later, he was prescribed methadone to help treat the extreme pain in his back, according to court records. During the appeal, a representative for US Airways argued, stating that his death was non-work related. The court then proved that the medication prescribed due to the back injury sustained at his place of employment directly led to his
death in 2008. The widow of the decedent is expected to receive death benefits of $550 a week.
